The Road Lines paintings are created as an homage to the drive that residents of northern Canada share. There are very few roads that take us to the northern part of our province. Barren and unforgiving, repetitive and beautiful- no matter how fast or slow, we must sit in our vehicle and make it through the 400 km from start to finish. Sentenced to hours of close contact or no contact, we disconnect to become connected. Our minds wander. We solve problems, plan new problems, set goals and think about old problems. Trapped in the car we try to talk about what we never have time to talk about. We reminisce, we argue, gossip, laugh and travel as fast as our lives are going. In the midst of this we look over and see the beauty of the land we take for granted. They are scenes that exist even if no one is looking at them.
